Sonya L's Story
Hello to all alumni of STJ! I am a single parent of a 14 soon to be 15 year old son. His name is Demitrius RaShard Cromwell and he is the love of my life. When he was 3 1/2 years old, he was diagnosed with autism. He has come a long way and has been doing very well in school. He will be in the 9th grade at-you guessed it- St. John's. They have a great program and I believe he will do very well. I work full-time as a CNA at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community on James Island. It is very hard work but at the same time, rewarding. a great deal to me. I did pursue a nursing career back in 1996 but I was no longer able to finish due to the death of my grandmother. It was one of the most traumatic times in my life, but I got through with the grace of God. I was able to go back but had to stop. My future plans is to go back to school to finish what I started. If not that, then to remain in the medical field. I am the same smiling, friendly, easy to tallk to Sonya. I am not as quiet as I use to be but I do make sure I get my point across. I still reside on Wadmalaw Island in my grandparents' house with my son. For me, home is where the heart is.
